Type Around the Neighborhood
I brought my camera along for my daily constitutional and decided to take in some of the local signage. Gill Sans (aka “England’s Helvetica”) seems to be a popular typeface around Buffalo, which is fine but can be a bit tiresome. Kinda like a girl you had a fling with once and for some reason keeps popping up — you don’t really regret anything, but you’d rather try something else.

There’s a reason why Gill Sans is so widely used around Buffalo. Because its probably the single most wonderfully awesome, completely versatile font ever designed. I have an affinity for said font and use it whenever I get a chance. I even managed to sneak it in for designs I’ve done for companies with strict font usage rules. Yes, other fonts exist like other flings, but why stray from the familiar, especially when the familiar can express so much.
